WAV is the most compatible with older CDJs. FLAC saves space and works on newer players and in Rekordbox. A 320kbps MP3 is the smallest and plays everywhere, but it is lossy. If your crate is small and your gear is mixed, WAV is the safest pick.
A WAV downloaded from SoundCloud is an uncompressed copy of the stream, at 16-bit and usually 44.1 kHz. It won't add detail the stream doesn't have, but it won't lose any either, even after you edit or export it many times.
Before converting, check whether the track has a Download button or a free download link in its description. If the artist offers the original WAV, that is the best file for your crate.
Use SoundCloud WAVs for practice and personal sets, and ask the artist before playing unreleased tracks at events. Many producers share free downloads exactly so DJs will play them, so credit them when you do.
